WRITING - LEARNING IRREGULAR PAST TENSES

Hello fellow classmates!

As my first entry I am going to use some materials to learn some irregular past tenses of the English verbs. I think that people mostly make memorize the list basically, but I think use them and see them in different context make learning them easier, so I create a big puzzle to improve their learning. For this activity I use puzzlemaker (https://puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com)
ACROSS
1. Past tense of bite
2. Past tense of buy
5. Past tense of forgive
7. Past tense of fight
8. Past tense of bring
10. Past tense of run
12. Past tense of sleep

 DOWN
1. Past tense of bend
3. Past tense of understand
4. Past tense of hear
6. Past tense of fight
8. Past tense of become
9. Past tense of Teach
11. Past tense of beat
12. Past tense of see

  1. Hi!
I think this kind of exercise it's ok to study past tenses. You can also do a little competition in the English lessons, by pairs or little groups (when the pandemic situation allow us to work normally) and our pupils can learn at the same time they are enjoying in the school.
    Good job!

  2. Hello!
I really like the idea to work on irregular verbs through a crossword. It's good that you provided with the PDF so that students can download it. Still, it would be nice if you gave the same resource to do it online; then students would have two ways to carry out the activity: online or in written form.
Either way, the idea it's very engaging!

  3. Hello!

Out of curiosity, which was the grade you had in mind for this activity? From what i saw during the "practicum", at least in the school i was, they didn't learn the past simple and past participle tenses until 6th grade, althought the 4th and 5th grade students used the past tenses frequently during normal speach.

I agree with the first comment that perhaps a competition or group activity could be added, but i do think this activity could work very well with the upper years of Primary School.

    Best regards,

    Aitor
